To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird was directed by Robert Mulligan in 1962, two years after the novel had been first published. The movie portrays the early 1930s. To Kill a Mockingbird is more a drama than a historical film; however, some historical background is present in it.

The Civil Rights Movement started in the early 1950s, and the film shows some of the events that preceded it. To Kill a Mockingbird reveals behavior and attitudes that were common to that period, namely discrimination against African Americans. I have not noticed any particular facts that can teach me about that period of history, however, attitudes and the spirit of that time are vividly described. In the scene when the trial takes place, it is easy to notice that the members of the jury are all white men. Even though Atticus Finch (a lawyer) gives much evidence to prove Tom’s (an African American who is wrongly accused of raping a white lady) innocence, the prosecutor still considers him guilty believing that it is impossible for a black man to feel sorry for a white woman. During that period, it was normal to seriously punish African Americans even for slightest guilt because black individuals were excluded from juries and could not express their opinion in court. The trade-off between the dramatic effect and historical accuracy is well presented in this picture. To Kill a Mockingbird is a kind movie for people of all ages that does not show any apparent historical events.

In conclusion, To Kill a Mockingbird is a movie that has been highly praised by many people. A viewer can observe the lifestyles, clothing, household items, and attitudes of that time, but not any particular historical events.

Platoon

Platoon is a war movie directed by Oliver Stone in 1982. It is about the Vietnam War that lasted from 1955 until 1975. The producer of the film is a veteran of the Vietnam War, so Platoon is based on his personal war experiences. Platoon has many scenes that look very realistic, and sometimes it is hard to distinguish between the real and fictional world.

Platoon does not provide any data, facts, or statistics on the Vietnam War. Nevertheless, it brilliantly describes attitudes, relationships between allies and rival parties, and the spirit of the time. The protagonist of the film is Chris Taylor. The events that happen to this hero help viewers to understand the essence of the Vietnam War. Platoon shows not only the opposition between American soldiers and Vietnamese people but also attitudes inside the American platoon. For example, sergeants Barnes and Elias are two completely different characters symbolizing the eternal struggle between good and evil. Even though these characters are fictional, in any platoon there are always individuals who express different points of view. There is a trade-off between the dramatic effect and historical accuracy in this movie. The historical background of the movie is the Vietnam War, and dramatic effects are achieved with the help of the scenario, excellent acting of the cast, and well-selected filming locations.

To summarize, Platoon tells its viewers that any war is a very horrible thing and nothing is more important than human life. Using the information about the Vietnam War, the director created an action film that reveals all details of this terrible event.

Elon Musk

Elon Musk Every person has a leader whose personal qualities and professional achievements cause admiration. My leader is Elon Musk, and I believe that he is a true hero of modernity. It seems that among the legends of the technological business, Elon Musk is the one receiving stunning comparisons and loud epithets most frequently. He is often compared to Leonardo da Vinci as people consider him a modern version of this great artist. Without this person, there would be no Tesla electric cars, the PayPal payment system, and the first private space flights. Not only did Elon Musk want to give people an opportunity to drive electric vehicle and ease the world’s dependence on oil with the help of a super-charging network for electric vehicles and solar energy but he also dreamt about making the human civilization interplanetary and start the Mars colonization. Elon Musk has made his way from an uneasy childhood in South Africa to the top of the world business, and he is my leader for...

How We Are Defined by Culture

How We Are Defined by Culture THESIS Culture determines human behavior and personality of an individual in all aspects of life, including economic, social, and political, thus ultimately defining a person. STATEMENT OF INTEREST AND PROGRESS OF REPORT In this topic, my interest is to investigate to what extent culture defines people. Firstly, this objective is paramount, as it will help in appreciating specific behaviors of people in a given society. Secondly, the findings can facilitate dealing with various social issues affecting the community such as the role of women in political and economic fabrics of our society. Thirdly, this investigation can assist in addressing multiple social evils such as drug abuse in the culture. Regarding research progress on this subject, I have compiled various reference materials that have detailed information on culture and people. The majority of these materials are from the library, and some of them, I have obtained online from credible sources suc...
Salvation Salvation has been of interest to different denominations all over the world. Many scholars have studied the issue in order to understand what salvation is based on. Salvation presupposes that people are forgiven for their sins and are granted eternal life. Every Christian has such an ambition whereby their main goal is to live forever when Jesus comes a second time. For some people, salvation is based on Christian principles. For others, the teachings are very vague on the issue of salvation, which means that Christian principles solely cannot explain salvation. Salvation of human beings will not be based on Christian principles only since the majority of people in the world are not Christian, and there are many people who do good deeds regardless of whether they follow Christian principles. For some individuals, there is clear evidence that hell exists and the majority of people will eventually go there while few will be saved. Only some people follow Christian princip...
