THESIS

Culture determines human behavior and personality of an individual in all aspects of life, including economic, social, and political, thus ultimately defining a person.

STATEMENT OF INTEREST AND PROGRESS OF REPORT

In this topic, my interest is to investigate to what extent culture defines people. Firstly, this objective is paramount, as it will help in appreciating specific behaviors of people in a given society. Secondly, the findings can facilitate dealing with various social issues affecting the community such as the role of women in political and economic fabrics of our society. Thirdly, this investigation can assist in addressing multiple social evils such as drug abuse in the culture.

Regarding research progress on this subject, I have compiled various reference materials that have detailed information on culture and people. The majority of these materials are from the library, and some of them, I have obtained online from credible sources such as the department of culture. Currently, I am in the process of composing a questionnaire that I intend to take in the field to obtain additional information. The first target audience for this questionnaire is the department of culture, in which I can be able to determine ways of collecting information to determine its authenticity. Another is a rehabilitation center mainly for those dealing with drug abuse. There, I can investigate the people's motives behind the drug abuse. Among these respondents, I will rely on the center's employees and the patients' relatives since the victims may give distorted information. So far, I have succeeded in obtaining reading resource since they are available. Additionally, I have been able to contact the department of culture in order to receive permission to conduct an interview. The main challenge encountered is bureaucracy at the department, which manifests in complications with setting of the exact date and time, thus delaying the process.
