Salvation
Salvation has been of interest to different denominations all over the world. Many scholars have studied the issue in order to understand what salvation is based on. Salvation presupposes that people are forgiven for their sins and are granted eternal life. Every Christian has such an ambition whereby their main goal is to live forever when Jesus comes a second time. For some people, salvation is based on Christian principles. For others, the teachings are very vague on the issue of salvation, which means that Christian principles solely cannot explain salvation. Salvation of human beings will not be based on Christian principles only since the majority of people in the world are not Christian, and there are many people who do good deeds regardless of whether they follow Christian principles.
For some individuals, there is clear evidence that hell exists and the majority of people will eventually go there while few will be saved. Only some people follow Christian principles, which is why these individuals will receive salvation. There were various instances in the Bible when many people died and only few survived as God promised. Those who failed to obey God perished. There was the example of Noah who built an ark and saved only few chosen people, but majority perished because of the flood. When the Israelites were moving to the promised land of Canaan, many of them ignored God and sinned. As a result, only a few of them reached Canaan. There is also the example of Sodom and Gomorrah when people were sinning and only those individuals who did not sin were saved. All these incidences show that those who fail to respect Christian values will not attain salvation since those who do not honor the teachings of God lose His favor.
When Jesus was on earth, He clearly explained that there was hell and it was easy to go there since a place in heaven is difficult to earn. In order to go to heaven, a person has to be like a child, who is innocent and obedient. Moreover, people should forgive each other, forget unpleasantness, and listen to the teachings of God. Those who do not adhere to God’s rules and ignore Christian values will go to hell for their disobedience, thus losing their right for salvation. The fact that Jesus died on the cross in order to allow people to be forgiven does not mean that all individuals will be pardoned without spending at least some effort to deserve it. According to the requirements, people have to repent of their sins in order to be forgiven and get the opportunity of being saved. Thus, Christian values and principles are very important in achieving salvation.
The Bible teaches that a person will not be saved only due to their own efforts, but they will also be saved because of the favor of Jesus. It means that the efforts and behavior of individuals in the society will not be the only basis for salvation. It is through Jesus that people can be saved. Thus, it is futile to follow Christian principles only and to expect to be saved because Jesus’s favor will play the greatest role in ensuring that people attain salvation. On the whole, while observing Christina principles is an important thing, it does not guarantee salvation.
Apart from the Bible, which is the major source of guidance for Christians that explains Christian principles, various religious groups have developed their own doctrines. These doctrines help in building Christian principles for the groups. It means that for the variety of Christian groups, there may be different principles that determine their daily activities. As a result, these Christian principles are confusing as they vary from one religious group to another. Consequently, it is impossible to have many people judged on the basis of the principles that they do not actually know or understand.
Furthermore, while the stories in the Bible where people have disobeyed God are very relevant, the world is different from all those incidences. Not all Christians respect Christian values, and those who purport to respect the values do not always honor them. On the other hand, respecting the values does not necessarily mean that people do the right thing. There are many people who disobey the values but are good for the society: they support the members of the society, love others, and are generally good people. Such people do everything that Jesus requires people to do but do not necessarily follow Christian principles. They may not be baptized, but their deeds are better than those of the people who are baptized. Such people are likely to find salvation while those who follow Christian principles are not able to attain it.
While Christian teachings put more emphasis more on love as a major principle, it is not possible for all people to do good deeds all the time. People sometimes fail to demonstrate love because of the circumstances that they face. If salvation depended on Christian principles exclusively, then it would have been impossible for anyone to be saved because some of the Christians do not even understand the extent to which the principles can be applied.
Nevertheless, it does not mean that ignoring Christian principles does not influence the salvation of individuals. Christians have an advantage because they know some of the things that they are expected to do in order to attain salvation. However, breaking these principles makes them face worse consequences because it presupposes going against their faith. In contrast, it does not affect those who are unaware of the existence of salvation and Christian principles. Thus, salvation is a belief that Christians should continue to hold, but there is no guarantee that one will be saved by following Christian principles.
The majority of people in the world is not Christian and instead follows a different religion. Some are not affiliated with any of the religious groups. It means that they are unaware of the existence of any religious principles that should be followed or do not recognize them. Some people follow other principles and values that are taught in different religions. It does not mean that non-Christians are bad people, but they may be loving, supportive, and caring individuals. Such people cannot be punished because of the fact that they did not know the existence of Christian principles that are to be the basis of salvation. It would be very unfair that they are punished because of failing to respect values that they have never heard of. There is a possibility that these people will still attain salvation.
To conclude, Christian principles will not be the only grounds for salvation for the human beings. There are various complex issues concerning salvation, and there is no clear path to it. The mercy of Jesus Christ is one of the key factors that determine which individuals will be saved. This is why some people who are not Christians will still receive salvation despite the fact that they have never even learned about Christian principles. However, it is likely that many Christians will be judged on the basis of the Christian principles that they have learned. There is strong evidence supporting the claim that failure to respect the set values of Christianity has resulted in people perishing including the people of Noah’s era and the time of Sodom and Gomorrah.
